[TN-Bird] Cats and Mockers

Don't worry--this is not a continuation of the infamous cats argument.

I wanted to post about how perceptive my local mocker is. I have an 18 year
old cat who has sadly lost most of her vision but still gets around well (for
18). She has a "kitty atrium" (i.e., large redwood walk-in safe area) outside
with a small glider and steps up to it.

There is a mockingbird who since winter and kitty hasn't been out as much,
thinks the "kitty atrium" is his. He flits in and out, checking to see if
there is any food or water.

Today kitty went out and got onto the glider in the sunshine. Mocker came and
landed on the back of the glider about 12 inches from kitty, who ignored mocker
completely, and so they sat. Mocker amazingly did not do things mockingbirds
normally do to cats--harass them, dive bomb, etc. I think he could sense that
kitty was not a threat.

It was really quite a sight to see and does make you wonder just how perceptive
those mockingbirds are.
