Ivory-billed Woodpecker Celebration
Three-day event draws bird enthusiasts to Brinkley, Arkansas
Brinkley, AR, January 2006
­â??The Call of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker Celebrationâ?? is being held
at
the Brinkley Convention Center February 23, 24, and 25. Everyone is invited
to attend and celebrate the rediscovery of this magnificent bird.
Presentations will be offered by those who have actually seen the
ivory-bill, including Gene Sparling, David Luneau, Tim Gallagher, and Bobby
Harrison.
Leaders of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker Recovery Team from Audubon Arkansas,
The Nature Conservancy, and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology will also be
speaking. Visitors may also attend talks by representatives of optics firms
Leica,
Eagle and Zeiss, as well by Pete Dunne from the Cape May Bird Observatory in
New Jersey, wildlife photographer Marie Read, and others. The Arkansas Natural
Heritage Commission, Arkansas Game & Fish Commission and U.S. Fish &
Wildlife Service will also present programs and be aiding participants
throughout
the celebration.
Visitors may take a guided bird watching tour in the bayou, browse the
vendor expo, attend book signings, and enjoy a delicious southern fish-fry
with
great music at the celebration dinner on Friday evening. A complete itinerary
