The Chattanooga TOS chapter is sponsoring a field trip. From the newsletter SAT., MARCH 10: PINKY'S POINT TO VIEW OSPREYS AND THEIR NEST MEET: 7:45AM AT CHESTER FROST PARK BOAT RAMP IF YOU WANT TO CAR POOL/CARAVAN, LEADER: BOB EDENS (423) 991-3196 FOR INFO. Now that a pair of Osprey have come back to our area, we'll be watching the Osprey nesting platform in the middle of the river and looking for woodpeckers and other birds in the immediate area. Bald Eagles can sometimes be seen here too. Anyone who wishes to move from the viewing area can walk the dirt and gravel roads of the point and find many sparrow species, hermit thrushes and other resident and migrant species. DIRECTIONS TO PINKY'S POINT: Take Hixson Pike north, following signs to Chester Frost Park. Drive through Chester Frost Park (unless you are meeting us at the boat ramp on the left side of the road). Continue over the next hill and you'll eventually see a slough off the lake on your left. Take the first road to the left after you pass this slough (Nelson Spur Rd.) and that road will dead-end at the gates to Pinky's Point. Go through gates, and turn left when you get half way to the bottom of the hill. Look for birders' cars to find the Osprey viewing area.
