From 7.30 to 10.30 we had a very busy morning looking out of the dining room
window. The first Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers arrived, and with them we had our
first ever Hooded Warbler. The we can add Mourning Dove, Ruby-throated
Hummingbird, Northern Flicker, Downy Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker,
Eastern
Phoebe, Eastern Wood-pewee, American Crow, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Wren,
Eastern
Bluebird, American Robin, Hermit Thrush, Swainson's Thrush, Gray Catbird,
Brown Thrasher, European Starling, Warbling Vireo, Ovenbird, American Redstart,
Black-and-White Warbler, Blue-winged Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Palm Warbler,
Tennessee Warbler, Scarlet Tanager, Northern Cardinal, Rose-breasted Grosbeak,
Eastern Towhee, Baltimore Oriole, House Finch and American Goldfinch. All
these without setting foot outside, where we surely would have heard and seen a
few more of our "regulars". This always happens on a day you are supposed to be
preparing for a birthday party, not birding. Oh well. Ralph and Kay
Brinkhurst, Lebanon, Wilson Co.
