[TN-Bird] Brown Creeper in swamp near Paris, TN

Since Brown Creeper breeding records from west Tennessee are scarce, I
thought this would be of interest to some. I was working on a TVA
transmission line in Henry County, TN near Paris on May 17, 2007. Where the
line crosses over the North Fork of the Obion River the habitat becomes
wetland. Just outside the transmission line right-of-way is a cypress
swamp. I heard a brown creeper singing while searching the swamp for a
heronry. No heronry was found but a geat blue heron and a great egret were
seen. May 17 is probably late for migrant brown creeper thus suggesting
breeding. According to the Tennessee Bird Atlas, there was only one
probable breeding record for Hill County.

Other birds seen in the swamp included: Prothonatary warbler, common
yellowthroat, yellow-throated warbler, pileated woodpecker, a nesting
red-shouldered hawk, and others.

Four Bank Swallows nests were found in Hill County as well. Three were
found at a quarry. Northern rough-winged swallows appeared to be using the
bank swallow burrows.
