Hey all!
I apologize for this late posting, but I was off last week and didn't =
have access to my email at work til today. This was so great I have to =
share it.
On Wednesday September 17 at 5:14 pm my husband Steve noticed a large =
kettle of what we assumed would be Common Nighthawks coming in. Closer =
and we could see that they were Broad-winged Hawks. As they were =
directly above
us they were low enogh that we could see field marks even without the =
aid of binoculars. Hard to count but we got 50 plus every time we tried. =
This is the first time we've ever seen Broad-wings from our backyard. =
About 5 minutes later was 20 or
so Chimney Swifts, and later 16 Common Nighthawks. It was so great!
Also last week at home: the most beautiful specimen of Yellow-throated =
Verio that I've ever been privileged to see, Hooded
warbler, Worm-eating Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Yellow-throated =
Warbler, Blue-winged Warbler, Palm Warbler,
Common Yellowthroat, Ovenbird, Blue Grosbeak, Indigo Buntings, =
Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Swainsons Thrush, Catbird,
Brown Thrasher, and Winter Wren (as far as migrants go). Field Sparrows =
still feeding young, and families of Eastern=20
Towhees. A few flocks of (silent) Common Nighthawks, largest had 42 =
indivuals.
Thanks for listening! =20
Great birding to all!
