[TN-Bird] Blue-headed Vireo (Greene Co., TN)

27 March 2004
Paint Creek Recreation Area
Greene County

Linda Northrop and I found a Blue-headed Vireo this afternoon at Paint
Creek Campground (head of Paint Creek Recreation Area) about seven miles
upstream from the French Broad River. This was our first of the year.

I have found this species at PCRA as early as March 24, but the last few
days of the month are typical for its arrival in Greene County.

Lower Paint Creek was devastated by the flood of August 2001 but is
somewhat accessible to foot travel now because National Forest Service
repairs began a few months ago. The corridor is still closed to motor
vehicles.
