I took a friend from Georgia on a little roadtrip from Maryville, to Kyker
Bottoms, along US 129 to Foothills Parkway, up FHP to Top of the World and down
Montvale Road to Maryville. We had 27 species in 2.5 hours. Not much activity
at Kyker with a 4 Canada geese, 6 Northern shovelers, 8 Green-wing teal and 4
Wigeon, Song and Field sparrows, Eastern phoebe, bluebirds and Cardinals.
Large group of Tree swallows with over 60 resting on power line, Had one
Kestrel, 3 Red-shoulder hawks and one Red-tailed hawk, Turkey and Black
vultures around Kyker. Had a mature Bald eagle along Chilhowee Lake near the
Foothills Parkway. A Peregrine falcon was seen over Montvale Road near the Six
Mile Baptist Church. This is the third time I've seen a Peregrine within a
mile or so of that location including one day of the GBBC. It may be the same
one seen over the winter in Maryville.
