[TN-Bird] Black Terns at Shelby Farms

Approximately 10-12 Black terns were seen feeding on the largest fish 
pond at Shelby Farms this afternoon. On 9/1/01 there was a similar size 
flock over the same pond. Trying to count feeding terns is a challenge. 
The birds were in several plumages. Quite breathtaking. 12 Green herons 
is the largest number seen this summer on the ponds. The resident male 
Blue Grosbeak has been joined be three others with a great deal of 
calling, but little singing going on.
There has even been a 'changing of the guard' butterfly wise. The Tiger 
Swallowtails and Gulf Fritillaries have been superseded by Giant 
Sulphurs  and Buckeyes. Fall is here early.
