[TN-Bird] Black Scoter - Wapanocca NWR

May 30, 2009
Wapanocca NWR
Crittenden Co. AR

Just a few active birds on a trip to Wapanocca Saturday with the big
surprise being a fist year male Black Scoter. I had met Gail King at the "Pits"

in Memphis and we traveled to Wapanocca to try for a Least Bittern. We only
heard one short call from a Least. I've had late scoters in May and early
June but they are always a surprise. The bird was seen on the water and in
flight.

Also present on the lake were 8 Anhinga (5 males -3 females), 1 Forster's
and 1 Black Tern, a few DC Cormorants, Wood Ducks and Pied-billed Grebes
plus a single White Pelican and the expected Great Blues and Great Egrets.
Good Birding !!!
