During my usual Cornell Feeder watch this week, our yard bird list (includes
air space over the property) went to 126 with, of all things, a mature Bald
Eagle. It scared the Coopers out of the tree. The feeder counts fluctuate
from 22-27 species. Most notable this year may be resident Hairy Woodpecker and
Red-breasted Nuthatch. This week we had very large flocks of Rusty Blackbirds
and Cowbirds, fewer Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds. While Song Sparrows
and White throated are regular, a single Field Sparrow is usual, but Chipping
Sparrows only occasional. Yellow-rumped Warblers are very scarce, the Hermit
Thrush has been seen only once.
