Wapanocca NWR
Crittenden Co, AR
I took this morning off from work and Joe Guinn and I went over to get a
recording of the Bell's Vireo, as it can be seen and heard right next to the
road. On the way to the site, I heard a Bell's in full song but about 1/3 mile
from original nest site. We went on to the first site and immediately had that
bird singing.
After recording the original bird and watching it following a female,
evidently busily feeding young, we quickly returned to the other site and
confirmed
the second singing bird. While watching this bird we saw a second bird at
this location. There are two confirmed pairs of Bell's now at Wapanocca. Not
too bad for a morning in the field. Joe got some great recordings.
We stopped by the lake before returning to work and counted 150+ American
White Pelicans and a single female Anhinga. Lots of other activity on the lake
but work was waiting.
Good Birding !!!
