[TN-Bird] Bell's Vereo

Lake Co, Tn
Black Bayou WMA
Hwy. 78
North of Tiptonville
Went to Black Bayou to see if I could find the Bell's vireo and immediately
heard it, several times. It is in the same place it has been since Mike Todd
located it.

You drive up hwy 78 from Tiptonville about 6 miles and turn right onto the WMA
on Choctow McCutcheon Rd. Drive around past the observation tower which will be
on the right and park by the first dirt road you come to on the left. NO
driving in allowed. You walk straight back to the levee on the grassy road and
the bird will be in the trees just across from you about mid way back.. You
usually need to ford the water this time of year, and walk back over to the
trees . It was relatively dry today. I turn right onto the levee and walk until
I find a dry place to cross or I put my rubber boots on. Lots of Swamp
sparrows, field sp., Dickcissel, Common Yellowthroats,

There were Blue Wing Teal, N. Shovelers. Mallards, one Lesser Yellowlegs on the
pond. A Sora flew out of the cut grass.on the right. There were two Wilson's
Snipe and a Solitary SP. on the mud flats behind the trees on the right. There
is a levee that was built Last year and you can walk now through the trees on
the right up by the culvert by the pond on the left and walk a short distance
to the right beside the slough that goes out to the road. You can get on this
new levee from the road that you pull up by to walk in and go right on to the
levee by the mud flats. (Very tall grass on it right now).
