Chris Sloan and Michael Bierly birded a portion of Bell's Bend Park,
Nashville, Davidson County, November 18, 2006, from 10:20 a.m. - 1: 30
p.m. The day was mostly sunny and in the mid-50's with a light wind. A
total of 35 species were encountered among them Wood Duck 2, Gadwall 7,
Double-crested Cormorant 1, Red-tailed Hawk 5, six species of
woodpeckers, Horned Lark 50 (in flocks upwards of 15 birds flying over),
Hermit Thrush 2, and 8 species of sparrows--Eastern Towhee 6, Field 17,
Savannah 1, Fox 4, Song, 19, Swamp 24, White-throated 23, and Dark-eyed
Junco 1. Birding was predominately in 2-year old fallow fields,
including floodplain, that consisted of sharp contrasts in habitat and
sparrow species make-up.

The warm day produced at least four species of butterflies of 15
individuals including sulphurs, Question Mark, Common Buckeyes, and
skippers. A single Chorus Frog was heard.

Bell's Bend Park is current being developed and not open to the public.
The park is scheduled to open to the public mid-summer 2007. This trip
was authorized to gather bird information for Birds of Bell's Bend Park.
