Perhaps it is more common in some spots of Tennessee this time of year but it
was a rare treat for us to have the only Little Blue Heron I have ever seen in
Bedford Co. We see this often in Florida, etc while traveling...
We were driving down Eady Rd off Hwy 231 and I was telling Roy to be a little
slower as we passed over the creek (we occasionally get a treat here...) and he
said, "well, you missed a mallard...wait a minute...." We stopped and backed up
and in a tree was a little Blue...we could only see its head. It then flew out
of the tree, landing on the flat rocks that make up the creek. What a
beauty...that bright light blue bill and spring blues and maroonish head.
Five Bob-o-links, all males, graced the fence along our area where we enjoy the
baby longhorn calves. The birds were a first for us on our "bird route" to
school...
A lady that works at my school informed she enjoyed "seein' those blue
cranes...but I had 4 white cranes teh other day..." I inquired more when I had
time near some ponds near our school...I asked her if these were comparable to
those blue cranes/ herons and she said " oh yes, they were big ol birds..." I
then asked a different way of their size and she was pretty certain they were
close to the "cranes" size...I am unsure if these were cattle egrets or another
white egret type......but I was interested, anyhow...either of these would be
another treat for us in our county and I am going to get more detail on
where...I didn't quite follow her direction because I was in a hurry.
We heard nighthawks while in Nashville (Davidson Co) this evening...we have had
them in Coffee Co and Bedford already (perhaps last week??- can't recall).
