Could the "white dove" possibly be a rock dove? Many pigeon fanciers have
bred them into a variety of colors, etc., sometimes making them more
difficult to identify. They often put two bands on them for visual ID and
monitoring during home pigeon races, etc. If so, this one could have taken
a "wrong turn" and not made it back to its home loft, and you might find AU
as part of the band number. To learn more, including homing pigeon clubs
nearest you, you can access the web site of probably the largest racing
pigeon organization, the American Racing Pigeon Union, at
http://www.pigeon.org/.
The person who banded the bird, whether it is a homing pigeon or not, would
want to learn about the status of the bird if you could provide the band
number(s) and color pattern of the band(s). If the bird is believed NOT to
be a racing pigeon (rock dove), you can report the sighting and band
number(s) to the bird banding laboratory of the U.S. Geological Survey of
Laurel, Maryland at toll-free number at 1-800-327-BAND.

Subject: [TN-Bird] Banded white dove found dead
Hey all,
Can someone please give me some info?
My friend has found a white dove dead in her yard. It has 2 bands on it, one
is pink and one with numbers.
Does anyone know if we should report it, and if so who do we report it to?
Thanks,
