TN-birders, My wife, Dollyann Myers, along with Frank Bills and his wife Sharon Bostick, and myself found an immature Baltimore Oriole while out birding today. The location was the Toqua boat launch ramp in Monroe County. This is on highway 360, 3 miles southeast of highway 411, just into Monroe Co. This is the first boat launch symbol on page 43 of the TN Gazeteer on highway 360. The bird was spotted where the 100 yard access road opens up into the large square paved parking area (where the boats are actually launched). When we first saw it we initially thought it might have been a Pine Warbler, but after much better looks we noted the larger and more conical beak of an icterid, much larger body size (we actually found a Pine Warbler about 20 minutes later for comparison), much yellow wash across the breast area (but not as comprehensive as the Pine Warbler seen later and a different tone of yellow), ochre color around the rump area, 2 white wing bars, and longer tail than Pine Warbler. The oriole flew across the parking area to the east, went missing for a few minutes, and then showed up again flying back across the parking area. All in all, it was seen perched briefly 3-4 times, including once in the scope by myself. Great birding to all, Ron Hoff Clinton, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
