Exciting yard birds have been rare this winter. We have lots of White-throated
Sparrows (Virginia counted 45 a few mornings ago) and several Dark-eyed Juncos
regularly and both species bring us daily delight. But the White-crowned
Sparrows, a single Fox Sparrow, and a male and female Purple Finch made only
brief appearances and then moved on.
We did, however, have major excitement this morning as a mature Bald Eagle
soared over our yard and became our 134th yard bird. What a magnificent sight!
We've seen dozens of them but never fail to have a sense of awe at their
beauty and majesty.
