[TN-Bird] Re: Bachman's Sparrow current status?

I've gotten several private responses to my ponderings. The gist of
it is this:
Though people are certain the two populations centered in Wayne
County and White County still exist, these birds have not actually
been seen in several years. I'm not so certain their continued
presence in these areas can be taken for granted, given the
transitory nature of the habitat. Any given clearcut is only good
habitat for a very few years, and timber harvest practices are
constantly shifting. Hence, the Montgomery County birds on closed
portions of Fort Campbell appear to constitute the only population in
Tennessee that is actually known to be in existence at present.
