[TN-Bird] Baby chickadees

The good news today is that Mama & Papa Chickadee brought FIVE babies to
feed at my home in the Charlotte Park section of West Nashville this morning.

Possible bad news is that I heard a mockingbird giving a very weak distress
call down below the deck, and I was having one of MY "weak" spells and did
not feel capable of maneuvering the stairs to go to check on it. Although I
am
getting stronger after my illness, I still have a good bit of weakness and
lack of energy. After yesterday's disoriented mourning dove, I wonder if
there is something around that is affecting my birds. Several people have
suggested that the dove may either have nerve damage or had eaten fermented
berries. Since the Easter freeze here killed the blossoms, I doubt we have
anything that has fermented. Also, the dove didn't act like the drunken
robins and
cedar waxwings I've observed after they'd filled up on fermented fruit. The
cedars were the most pathetic I've ever seen. Thousands were totally "zonked
out" on fermented juniper berries (pure GIN!) in the Hill Country of Texas
when I was traveling there several years ago. Many flew into the paths of
oncoming cars to the point that the highway was full of dead waxwings. They
were so thick that they were flying right into the cars from every direction,
and it was impossible to keep from hitting them or them from hitting me. Even
when I stopped at a roadside overlook, they were still slamming into the
front and sides of my car. That was a sad experience.

Bird safely this Memorial Day weekend. I'm staying off the roads!
