[TN-Bird] BBC in Greene Co., TN

Bristol TOS field trip report
Sat., Mar. 29, 2003
Greene Co., TN

Twelve people braved rain and falling temperatures to observe birds in
the open country and wetlands of western Greene County between 9 am and 6 pm
Saturday. A total of fifty-two species were found. A few of the memorable
moments include: a lone Cattle Egret who seemed to regard Canada Geese as
very small cattle; three very active Red-headed Woodpeckers who once landed
all together on a lawn; the unexpected find of a Great Egret wading a poorly
drained field with a Great Blue Heron; and a good close look at a Blue-gray
Gnatcatcher intense in both plumage and demeanor.
Participants were James Brooks, Carole Cross, Rack Cross, Sammee Cross,
Mary Jane Erwin, Bill Grigsby, Don Holt, Janice Martin, Don Miller, Linda
Northrop, Judy Roach, and Ruth Smith. A crew like this is guaranteed to keep
you smiling in any weather. Thanks, everybody!
