Mississippi River
Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co. TN
I flushed a surprise from some scrubby brush on Saturday at Ensley. Eight
Pine Siskins went up into the top of a willow bush, stopping long enough for a
photo. My first of season and unexpectedly away from a feeder.
At Ensley there were Killdeer, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Western and
Least Sandpipers, Dunlin, 1 Stilt Sandpiper and 2 Wilson's Snipe. With the
Avocets, 9 species of Wind Birds. Lots of raptors at Ensley on Saturday but
I'll
post them later with some photos.
Sunday, 2 Avocet were sleeping on Dacus Bar this AM and were still present
in the afternoon. This is the first day this week that the Peregrine was not
seen and photographed on or around the island, lucky Avocets. Flotillas of
birds passed by Mud Island today with top numbers being Coots but good numbers
of
Ruddy, Shovelers, Gadwall, Lesser Scaup, Green-winged Teal, plus 2 SURF
SCOTERS and a HORNED GREBE.
I also a single Horned Grebe on Robco Lake on Saturday.
Good Birding !!!
