For at least the 3rd consecutive year, I had an 'Audubon's' Yellow-
rumped Warbler in the yard this morning (West Knox Co, Sunday,
27 March 2011). I've gotten several good looks at the bird and
some crummy photos. It has mainly been foraging in the woods but
has visited the suet feeder at least 3 times though not cooperating
for good photos so far. It is in the company of 3-4 'Myrtle'
Yellow-rumpeds.

As usual, I was first alerted to the bird's presence by its call
notes which sound more louder, more emphatic and maybe more
musical(?) than the dry flat chip of Myrtle. Audubon's sounds more
phoebe-like than Myrtle-like to me.

The bird is in heavy molt and looks really messy, especially around
the head. It has some distinct patches of bright yellow feathers
coming in on the throat. The Myrtles are also in heavy molt but
show distinct, black ear patches that contrast with the patches
of new blue-grey and old brownish grey feathers on their head and
surrounded by the light eyebrow and extension of the throat.
The Audubon's head was really in molt but didn't have the same
contrast around the earpatch.

One thing of concern is that it has a short flare of white behind the
eye similar to what is shown in Sibley ... though I've not seen that
in birds out west.

Also had a very active Blue-headed Vireo this morning and Saturday
morning as well.
