East Ark - West TN
Roving around this weekend, I had to make a few altitude adjustments. Usually
low sulking Brown Thrashers are now in the tip top of trees singing away.
White-throated Sparrows have given up the ground to feed up high on the fresh
green seeds in Elm Trees. While White-crowned Sparrows have left the brambles
and rose hedges and are foraging on the flowers and fresh foliage of Henbit
and Chickweed.
The subtle beauty of the low expansive carpeting of Henbit, Bluets, Chickweed
and Spring Beauty speaks softly of spring but soon Marsh Buttercup will tower
over these in the fields and announce the coming transition to summer and
hot, bright composites. Each wave of warblers will do the same with color as
Black and White Warblers give way to Black-throated Green and then on to
Blackburnian as the season progresses.
After searching all week in all my old regular locations but coming up empty
handed, I finally found 2 Upland Sandpipers in a field near the Hatchie
Bottoms in Tipton Co., TN.
Good Birding!!!
