[TN-Bird] Re: Advice Needed

Since Brown-headed Cowbirds are native to North America, they fall under the
protection of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It is therefore illegal to
destroy the cowbird egg without Federal and state permits.

About 3 afternoons ago, while inspecting our roses, I discovered a neat
little nest tucked into a red climbing rose at about chest high. Inside was
a single small blue egg. I didn't see the nest builder, but a lot of white
hair was used in the nest's construction and the farmer across the street
raises Charlois cattle ( which are white), so I immediately guessed Chipping
Sparrow. This afternoon, to my surprise, I glanced in on the nest and saw a
second egg, this one twice as big, but white, with streaking brown
speckles......I can't think of any depositor except a Cowbird. My first
thought was a human ( and to my mind, humane) intervention, of casting out
the large egg. But....I thought I'd consult with you folks first.

What are the pro's and con's? Any legal ramifications?  Your comments shall
be appreciated.
