Today, at Pace Point while looking for the Yellow-billed Loon, Mike Todd and
I found and photographed an adult California Gull. The bird was resting in a
small flock of Ring-billed Gulls with a few Herring Gulls. Pace Point is in the
Big Sandy Unit of the Tennessee NWR on the Tennessee River. This is my first
adult California in Tennessee.
I thought it interesting how the mantle color at some angles matched the
Ring-billed Gulls and at other times it stood out as being much darker. I've
posted some poor photos taken from a couple of hundred yards and in the stiff
wind
but I think they are worth sharing.
