[TN-Bird] About that April Ivory-bill posting

I just happened to find this little tid-bit from the TN-Bird archives. If
political appointees are not to be discussed, should not Gale Norton's name
have
been deleted from this post? It seems to be all in the eye of the beholder
as to exactly what politics is or isn't.

TN-Birders:

I have been following a thread on the New River Valley Birds mailing list for

last couple of days reporting the discovery of the IVORY-BILLED WOODPECKER in

Arkansas.

Tonight the e-mail lists are beginning to rage with reports of a major

ornithological announcement coming Thursday. Most sources will not say what
it

is. It is supposedly being held as a tightly kept secret for political

purposes.

At 11:30 a.m. EST Thursday (4/28) the following persons are supposedly going
to

make the announcement at a press conference: Gale A. Norton, Secretary of the

Interior; Mike Johanns, Secretary of Agriculture; John Fitzpatrick, Ph.D.,

Director, Cornell Lab of Ornithology; Katrina Kelner, Ph.D., Deputy Editor,

Life Sciences, The Journal Science; Steve McCormick, President, The Nature

Conservancy; Scott Simon, Arkansas Director, The Nature Conservancy; Scott

Henderson, Director, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission
