[TN-Bird] A lone migrant--crane?????

Hello Birders,
Could it REALLY be? I THINK it was! In fact, I'm pretty flat out positive!
Around 3 PM, as I went out to put more bird feed on the deck here in the
Charlotte Park area of West Nashville, just a few blocks from the Cumberland
River's Cleece's Ferry Boat Ramp in Davidson County, I looked over in the
direction
of the river and saw ONE LONE crane type bird flying high above the river and
in front of oncoming rather black clouds. Noting the general shape of the
bird and its long extended neck, I believe it was one lone sandhill crane
labouring its way in the wind to where it may find a place to spend the night.
Monsanto, perhaps, or even Wheeler? It was NOT a great blue heron, and the
only
reason I am even hesitant about a crane is the location although Jay
DesGrosselier(sp.?; sorry Jay) had some fly past his apartment in Bellevue(?)
one early
morning a few bird counts ago. If I were nearer the "approved" crane flyway,
I'd call it in a New York minute, as I really am sure that is what the bird
was. Poor thing must have gotten lost from its flock, but I didn't hear it
squawking, possibly because of the distance, but I've hear lone cranes squawk
loud
and clear before from further away than this one. Maybe this one was either
a leader or a straggler, and the rest of the flock were not within my sight
range having either gone by or were yet to come.
Question: To count it as a yard bird, does it have to have flown directly
over my yard, or do I merely have to see it from my yard, or do I make my OWN
rules in this particular game?
Cheers, prayers & good birding,
Dee Thompson
