Early last fall I was invaded by a pestilence of Grey Squirrels, 6 or 7 at time, which would quickly clean out my bird feeders. I chiefly feed Black Oil Sunflower Seed and with it selling at about .55/lb in our area at the time, I could ill afford to fatten a squadron of squirrels. I found numerous squirrel-proof feeders on the Internet, but most are quite pricey and mechanical in nature which IMHO would make them subject to early failure. I was about ready to give up when I stumbled on this site for a build-it-yourself squirrel-proof feeder. Here's a link to the site: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-build-a-Flexi-Perch-Squirrel-proof-birdfe/ I built a few of the feeders and have been Beta testing them ever since. They work...all the squirrels packed up and headed for the deep woods to work for an honest living! I found the feeders easy and inexpensive to build.....my only quarrel with the design is that it offers only 4 feeder ports and I wanted more. I was, however, able to overcome this flaw and gin up a modified design for an 8-port feeder. Should any of you care to see pictures of my 8-port feeder and read tips on how to make it, feel free to contact me.
