TN-Birders: The following is a rough tally of the number of messages posted to each of these state's birding lists from 1 Jan 2005 to 20 Jun 2005. There are several demographics and birder relationships that influence the number of posts in a state. Less moderated lists tend to have larger number of posts for several reasons. The high number in Virginia, for instance, mainly reflects the heavy number of reports coming from major populated areas like Northern Virginia and Tiedwater. Virginia has a number of local and regional lists operating within the state. One such example is the Richmond Audubon listserv with 620 messages this year. Kentucky and Alabama may reflect a combination of less population and/or a smaller number of active birders who are reporting. West Virginia appears to reflect a small number of very active and free posting birders.
