If you need Black-bellied Whistling Ducks for your Life or TN list, now is
the time to look for them. For the past week they have been hanging out at
TVA Lake during the day. The Fulvous evidently have moved on but our
original group of 7 Black-bellied Ducks has grown to 12, with 10 at TVA Lake
and
a pair near Coro Lake. The pair in the swamp off of Shelby Drive look good
to go for nesting.
Also at TVA Lake, were 34 Least Terns because the Mississippi after falling
over 20 feet decided to jump back up 5 feet and covered their sandbars.
The two White-rumped Sandpipers are still present at the "Pits"and the molted
Least Sandpiper has a new friend, probably a returning early breeder as
the bird is in very bright adult alternate plumage. The single American Coot
still looks lonely but I found Song Sparrows feeding two sets of young and
had 3 different pairs of Bob White.
On President's Island, the Scissor-tails are feeding at least 3 young while
the hybrid female, just as last year, is raising at least 3 youngsters all
by herself!! So far I've photographed 13 Western Kingbird nests in
Memphis.
Good Birding !!!
