But Chris,
Is John talking about 2003 or just 2000? These tools might be available for
2003 but are they available or will they work just as good for 2000 ?

I'm not all too sure about the requirement for Exchange 2003. From what
I have read and been told from Microsoft, if you are running Exchange
2000, you will need to make sure you have a COMPLETE backup of your PRIV
and PUB IS(s) as you WILL need to completely re-install Exchange after
the domain re-name.
Also, the Domain Rename tool should ONLY be used as a last case resort.
There are so many "gotchas" and caveats to this tool. It is recommended
that a parallel migration in conjunction with the ADMTv2 be used to do a
domain rename.

Hi Chad,
2003 AD even has a domain rename utility. One of our cutomers went to
200 just for that ability alone. However if you're running exchange,
then an upgrade to exchange 2003 is just about mandatory if you want to
minimise your problems.

it is my understanding that you cant do a rename. I
could be wrong (it happened once). The only option would be to create a
new domain with a different name, and migrate your resources. If all you
need is different domain aliases, that can be done, but not changing the
actual NetBios domain name.

Does anyone have any experience with renaming a
Domain Name on W2K Active Directory?
