This won't solve the root problem, but if you have a default ini file,
why don't you just make sure to copy it in the login script, you can use
Vbscript to make custom edits to it for particular users or groups.

I have a VB script, that goes through and checks file permissions for
subdirectories of a network drive letter and then custom writes the .ini
file for one of our programs. That way users only get the 3 or so
folders they have rights to in a dropdown list in the app instead of 56
folders. Could something like this solve your problem?

They only thin I can think of is that there is a problem LOADING the
profile, and since I have the system set to delete the profile when they
log off, it creates a new "default" profile. Then when they log out the
default profile writes back to the homedirectory and overwrites the
existing one. I have seen the message about the local profile being
newer than the roaming profile, and I always instruct the users to use
the roaming profile, but they don't listen that well sometimes. Any
idea WHY the homedirectory keeps getting overwritten? Jason

I guess I would go after root cause and figure out WHY the home dir and
profile are getting creamed. I mean files being deleted from the homedir
is not good beyond just this app.

They do have home directories.
But these users even the Home directory gets overwritten.
I know that if Timesaver doesn't FIND the tswin (which is int he windows
folder in their profile) it creates a default blank one. then when they
log out it over writes the one in the home directory profile. Whats odd
is, we make a copy of the tswin file for that very purpose just in case
the original gets overwritten, but it is deleted when this occurs.

No idea if it needs to be writable. BUT my question is do your users
have homedirectories? Doesn't sound like it. If they did you would have
a windows Sub dir in there and this is where the file would reside
(corrupt profile or not)

Also why not right a little script that just checks to see if the file
is there. If it isn't then copy it in....

We serve out Timesaver to our customers, In the user profile is a file
called TSWIN.ini. This file contains specific info that has to be
retained across the multiple servers we balance timesaver across. I
have been using Roaming profiles for this, but we are having a small but
continuous problem with the profile getting wiped out. I think to solve
this I should set mandatory profiles for those users, but I am not sure
if the Tswin file needs to be writable, anyone know?
