[THIN] Re: mini-poll: mirrored disk or page file on a seperate disk?

Again, how is this possible with only two drives? Raid 0+1 is a two =
strip sets mirrored. A strip set would require 2 drives, and to mirror =
them 2 more. Thus 4 drives... Setting Raid 0+1 on 2 drives is just =
Raid 1.

I have done this with Compaq Smart Start, with a system with 2 drives. =
It
defaults to RAID0+1 which is a stripped Mirror. Note I didn't say with
parity...

Huh? How do you do RAID 0+1 with only two drives? You need 4 drives =
=3D
for that, the blades only allow for two.

In any case, server class raid controllers generally support RAID 10 =3D
over 0+1. RAID 10 is a little better that 0+1.

Defintely RAID 0+1, with page file as normal. Just make sure you size it
1.5X Physical memory.=3D20

Definately A... B will not give you extra performance. Keep in mind =
=3D
=3D3D
that the Raid controller can read off of both disks in a RAID 1 senario.

2GB should be good. Depends on how resource intensive your apps are.

I'm semi-involved in a project where we are looking at deploying a =3D3D
fairly large farm (approx 30 servers) using blade servers. Each blade =
=3D
=3D3D
only has place for 2 drives, and we're not going to SAN attach them.
In this situation would you:
a) mirror two drives and place everything on this mirror set?
b) not mirror them and place the page file on it's own drive?
=3D3D20
Option a is obviously for a bit more redundancy, option b is for =3D3D
performance. Dual CPU blades with 2 or 4 GB RAM.
