[THIN] cannot get mcafee installed!!

Also too:

1. Have you tried filemon or regmon to rather aggressively see where
Mcafee is trying to go and then failing?  It might be VERY helpful since
you are likely getting a false reading from the installer that a more
detailed failure report would help you.

2. Or barring that... map the H drive to something on purpose.  Then if
the registry  looks for something on H well you know where H is then. 
It's a work around but might be worth fiddling with.

Are you trying this install physically at the console?  Also you could
try copying your install media to a temporary directory on your server
and using that location to install.

Listen to Ulrich though, he's always right on the target!
