[THIN] Re: cannot get mcafee installed!!

We had similar problems when we redirected our 'my documents' folders to
the H drive. Most SW installs look to My Docs for the install. We did
NOT use a GPO to redirect, we just changed the properties of the My Docs
folder to point to H:\.

Redirecting the My Docs to H is a good idea in a PS environment.

Hope this helps!

Jim

Thank you and I will certainly check into that.

But I just don't understand why if I am logged on to the console as the
local admin on the citrix server, with no folder redirection, or home
drive or anything like that, when I run the install for mcafee, why it
fails and says "invalid drive H: error 1327". why the heck is it trying
to do anything with H: at all at that point??? where is it getting that
from? The only thing I can think is that it is from a previously failed
installation and is hanging around in the registry somewhere.

i have contacted mcafee on this and they had me going through the
registry to try and remove all references for mcafee to H: and i did
that for several hours with them, but still no luck???? finally they
said that they won't help me anymore unless i can reproduce the issue on
a physical machine. i really don't think this has anything to do with
ESX, but don't get me started on that...

Hi Jon,

This is usually due to folder redirection being enabled, and the drive
and/or folders not present.

Have a look at your values under
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell
Folders".

I always ensure that my "deployment" accounts have folder redirection
turned off to avoid these issues.

Cheers.

Subject: [THIN] cannot get mcafee installed!!

hello. I am trying to install mcafee virus scan enterprise v8.0i on
my presentation servers. (windows 2003 & ps 4.5) they happen to be
vm's on ESX 3.0.2. in AD we are mapping our home drives to H: (not ts
home drives just regular home drives)

when I logon to the console of these vms as the local admin (no H:
drive) and try to install mcafee I get an error message saying invalid
drive H: 1327. if I do a subst H: c: then try the install I get past
that part but then the install fails and says that the path is too
long (H: program files)

if I logon as a domain user with admin rights to the console of the
server I get much further in the install process but then it fails and
says that it can't start the service???
