Hi Neil,

Thanks for your response.

I managed to create a container using ADSI edit but it fails to show up in
the Active Directory Users and Computers screen. I guess I'm missing one of
the components.

Also, I read somewhere that you can enable the ability to show the 'New
Container' option in the UI. Apparently changing the DefaultHidingValue of
the class schema object to true will then show container as an option under
the 'New' menu selection. However, when I choose this I get an error along
the lines of 'this DC does not own something or other....' (sorry a bit
vague..).

I also read this somewhere "...as Administrator and am a member of Schema
Admins. I have access to
the Schema Master (since this is a test lab) and have marked the DC I am
using as able to update the Schema."

... does this mean, you have to be a member of a 'Schema Admins' group and
what does 'Marking the DC as being able to update the schema' mean?

thanks in advance...again...

By default, you will have a container called "Computers" in AD.

However, if you need to create another - lower down the hierarchy,
whilst AD users and computers may not let you, ADSI edit will.

Note: containers are a type of object - as are computers (in reference
to your use of "type").
