Mark,
Our experience is that you cannot "downgrade" XPe licences[1] down to XPa
but you can add XPa licenses to a farm that already has XPe licences
activated.
We were in a similar position as you - we had 45 XPe licences on our farm[2]
but really found the only "advanced" feature we used was load balancing.
When we needed to buy additional connection licenses we went through our
re-seller to try to downgrade our existing licenses to XPa and purchase 45
additional XPa licenses - we were told that the XPe licenses would have to
stay XPe with SA but that we could add extra XPa connection licenses to our
farm. So over a year ago we added 45 XPa connection licenses. This has not
caused us any issues at all - including updating the servers and all the
connection licenses to FR3.
I would have to check back on my records - but we may have even added the
XPa connection licenses before we upgraded our servers from WTS 4.0 to
Win2000.

Subject: [THIN] Xpe to Xpa "downgrade"?
Back when we started our Citrix installation, we went with XPe licenses.
Well, it turns out the only "advanced" feature we really use is load
balancing, so we could have done just fine with Xpa licenses.
We have 50 Xpe licenses right now, and we think we're going to be buying
5-15 more sometime soon. Is it allowable to buy Xpa licenses and mix
with our Xpe licenses? Can the e's be converted to a's so we can save
on SA renewals?
