The problem is the Evo's are not picking up CAL's (in which there are = =3D =3D3D plenty available). Instead they are getting temporary CAL's after they have = =3D3D been assigned temporary CAL's. They are simply not releasing the temporary = =3D =3D3D CAL's and requesting new permanent CAL's once the temporary license has =3D3D expired. This seems to be happening in patches. Where some terminals with get = =3D3D the CAL's and others wont. (meaning the machine it's assigned to has not attempted a TS connection in that time frame) As for Eval licenses, after a machine has connected to a TS server (I believe it's 3 times) a full TS cal is assigned if available, or the client is locked out.=3D3D3D20 All of this happens on the server side . . . not the client (or the T20's). So, you need to call the MS clearing house to get all licenses re-issued to your TS licensing server. (so that you have some spare TS licenses while they do their win9x to evo migration) Many people don't seem to realize that even with a fully service packed TS license server and TS servers, if a TS cal was issued to any =3D3D client's prior to the service packs and license fixes. That license won't =3D3D expire, or utilize any of the license behavioral fixes. Only licenses issued to clients after the service packs have been applied to the TS license server and the TS servers will behave properly. Every full TS cal =3D3D issued should display an expiration date, if they don't, they were issued = =3D3D prior to your service packs, and need to be re-issued via the MS clearing house.=3D3D3D20 If you don't believe me, please note the following Q from MS that explains all the TS cal behaviors with current service packs. (although it doesn't list SP3, in this article, SP3 adjusts other TS licensing issues such as the DB size, so the info from q287687 still applies). http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=3D3D3D3DKB;en-us;q287687 HTH J -----Original Message----- From: Tony Lyne (Computerland) =3D3D [mailto:Tony.Lyne@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D3D3D20 Sent: Thursday, February 13, 2003 12:06 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx; Citrix Internal Forum Subject: [THIN] Windows 2000 TS CALs on Compaq EVO terminals Hi Guys, =3D3D3D20 Question: Has anyone managed to figure out how to get the Compaq Evo T20's (and possibly other terminals) to release a temporary CAL and pick up a new permanent CAL (Windows 2000 TS CAL im talking about here). =3D3D3D20 I have a customer with an annoying problem where he is slowly replacing all of his Windows 9x machines with Evo's and the user is effectively =3D3D taking up 2 CAL's because their old machine has 1 CAL and the new EVO gets a temporary CAL, as there is no more CALs in the pool. Even though they have the correct number of CALs for their user base. =3D3D3D20 They have all of the Licensing H/Fixes applied to their TS licensing server and Terminal servers. =3D3D3D20 The only way I have been able to fix this so far is to erase the config of the T20 and reset it up again. =3D3D3D20 Tony Lyne Senior Systems Engineer=3D3D3D20 Computerland Central=3D3D3D20 P O Box 1470=3D3D3D20 PALMERSTON NORTH Telephone (+64) 06 3537300 Facsimile (+64) 06 3566800 Mobile (+64) 0274 720696 E-mail Tony.Lyne@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Internet <http://www.computerland.co.nz/> =3D3D http://www.computerland.co.nz CAUTION: This e-mail message and accompanying data may contain information that is confidential and subject to privilege.
