Have either of you made custom settings directly to the .vmx files or using
advanced settings in the Vi Client?

I've got a very similar setup to Chad with Citrix on VMWare. 2 HP DL385's, 2
Dell 2950's. Perfect for our department apps with only a few users. Citrix
servers are mixed in with other odd application servers and domain controllers.
Everything working great. (KNOCK KNOCK). Only assigning one virtual processor
per Citrix server.

I would think so.

Those are dual core Opertons right? Dual proc as well I assume in
those boxes? Are you doing this all 32bit or any 64bit?
That should mean my Dell 1955 blades with 2x dual-core Xeon 3.0ghz
processors should yield me similar results. I'm going to have to give this a
try. I

HP DL385G1 with 16Gb RAM, dual 72Gb 15K Ultra320 SCSI mirrored boot
drives; HP HBA; Additional two Gb NIC ports (4 total); back ended by HP EVA5000
SAN for LUNS.
All hardware is on the VMware hardware compatibility list.
Running ESX 3.0.1

Chad,
Can you please list the hardware you are running VI3 on?
Are you adding any custom settings to the vmx file?
Thanks

Multiple Citrix VM's, as well as other non-citrix VM's, per ESX box.
We have several ESX servers, and scatter our VM servers across them.

Can you be a little more specific of what you are doing exactly? Such
as:
1) 1 Citrix app server VM on 1 ESX box, no other VMs
2) 1 citrix app server VM on 1 ESX box, with other non Citrix VM's that
are low usage
3) Multiple Citrix app server VMs in a single ESX box

We have several Citrix servers, PS 4.0 running on VM's (ESX 3.0).
We have used it mainly for things like WI, ZDC, etc., but have several
running applications as well. WE are currently getting 50-60 users per Citrix
VM.
What we have saved is rack space, ability to get several formerly
physical servers, into a single 2U piece of hardware. We are still testing,
but we also have found a slight savings in heat produced, as well as power
used.
I like how quickly I can build out a new VM, based on a template,
versus a full server build. I like the fact that any required reboots are much
faster. I like the fact I can simply P2V from old unsupported hardware, to a
VM.
This is not for everyone, not for every situation, but I do plan to
continue moving more physicals to virtuals in the near future.
Just my $.02.

well, we want to gain better performance (as most of partners saiy),
not only for citrix but all of servers (like print servers, db server, notes
server, etc...) in order to reduce a lot of machine into one, two, or three.
and taking advantadge of it, integrate citrix as well.
