[THIN] Re: Thin Clients questions

The best thing to do is to pilot your solution with a small group of users
with a small group of servers. This will help you establish a baseline.
Can you get 40 users on a box? 60 users? 80 users? A baseline will help
you establish this.

I would also look at Aurema's ARMTech. Not only do you get CPU/Memory
optimizations (which lead to more happy users per box), but you also get
tons of reports. This tool will do the baselines for you and it will even
do trending... It's definitely worth a look.

The servers will be powerful brand new Compaq DLXX, rack mounted, dual
processors at least, few GB of memory and a lot of disk space.

The apps will be very diverse, but majority will resemble typical users.
Yes, 5000 concurrent users.

Size of servers? Blades? Duals? Quads? What type of applications.
The
apps they run will drive a lot of your answer.

Are all these 5000 users concurrent? You might check thin.net archives
for
server sizing documents.

Here is a scenario where 5000 users will be converted from typical
desktops
to thin clients.

How many Citrix MetaFrame servers do I need to serve the 5000 users?

Assuming a normal distribution of users, were minority of users be very
light, minority very heavy and majority typical users, running IE,
Email,
office apps, and few other utilities.

What is the best thin client in the market from your experience and why?

Thanks

Abdul Abdo
