That must have come out wrong, because we haven't solved it yet.

FileMon is an education in how Windows processes a logon in itself.  The
amount of entries that are called from UserInit.exe just for collecting the
font file (.fon, .ttf) is amazing. Nothing too obvious from FileMon yet
though.

This is one that I did chase after, but I went after dead/broken links.  Our
Start Menu does pull from some remote (mapped) drives.

Strange though perhaps....but what if you should test with file and regmon
on one server with no load? That might help solve the case... If you have 80
servers running, 79 of those can share the load of the 80th one....

Maybe an network connection to a strange server?
Had this also with icons being taken from network sources....

How large is the profile being loaded?  I found once i managed to get my
profiles down to a couple of meg, "speed to start menu" dramatically
improved.
