I'll give it a shot... The other weird thing is that there are *no* error
messages except for the Metaframe COM Server not starting. Is that required
for published applications to run? I'm d/ling these tools from Sysinternals
and we'll see what we find out!

Thanks so much for all your help thus far.

I would use procexp from sysinternals on the server to see if the server
actually manages to start the desired APP.EXE...and if it does, find out why
it is dying.

If the exe is starting then I would then use Dependency Walker which allows
you to trace the startup of a program so that you can see exactly what it is
doing.

Also, using regmon.exe and filemon.exe also from systinternals will show you
any file access problems or reg problems...

Where this all falls apart is the fact that the program runs fine from
within the desktop....so I would wonder what the difference is, I'm flakey
on this Citrix stuff, but as far as I know, when an app is run within the
context of a 'seamless windows', the app.exe is started up along with one
wfshell thingy...not sure what that is, but my point is that perhaps the
app.exe is struggling to start in this context... hopefully the sysinternal
tools I have mentioned may help you...

have fun... the sysinternal tools are well worth their weight in gold....

cheers, Brianos :o)

Yes, they run just fine locally... Just the publishing aspect doesn't seem
to work.

Hi Jennifer, are you able to run the application up from the desktop when
that comes up?

Hi Gang -

We are running into a problem on one of our servers after applying
the latest RPCSS patch from Microsoft. The server is running Windows NT
Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition, Metaframe XP FR1. Since installing the
patch, published applications aren't working, however, the published desktop
*does*. When trying to run the app, all you get is the Initializing, and it
dumps out right away, the application never comes up. But the desktop
connects and comes up. Which is very strange. We did notice that about the
time the patch was installed back on 9/10, the Metaframe COM Server ceased
to start, and we can't get it to start at all. We get a 7009 Event ID from
Service Control Manager, Timeout (120000 milliseconds) waiting for service
to connect. We tried applying a KB article on Citrix's website that the
Path variable was set incorrectly and found that it wasn't set at all. We
copied over from the known good server and rebooted, but the service still
didn't start. That's the kicker to this problem... We do have an identical
server with the same setup and patching, only it works properly. Anyone
have any good ideas for me?

Thanks so much!
