[THIN] Re: Smooth Roaming

In order for SmoothRoaming to work effectively the authentication agent
(PN/PNA/WI) needs to present the username to the load balancer to be
redirected to a server with an existing session. PN, PNA and WI will
all do this depending on how they are configured. As Joe mentioned if
you don't supply the username and happen to connect to a server with an
existing session you will be reconnected. As an example if you created
an ICA file with an embedded username and password Full PN would pass
the username to the load balancer and smooth roaming would work. So it
is really not a question of what client you use, it is move what
information is provided to the load balancer to make its routing
decision. Clientname is also influential in the load balancing process
if the username is not provided.

Thanks.

So it is working, sort of, but there is no guarantee, unless we use PNA
or WI with it configured?

If you happen to get load balanced to a server in which you have an
existing
server you will end up reconnecting to that session. So the smaller
the
farm (or silo) the higher the likely hood. Also, If you're "testing"
during
a time when there is not a lot of new unique logins), there is a good
chance
the ZDC keeps sending you to the same server over and over (All depends
on
your load evaluator and what the ZDC thinks is the Least loaded
server)

For some reason I thought this was only supported using PNA or WI.

While testing other things, I have found that it appears to work when
using the Full PN as well.

Anyone have more insight on this?

We have a WI/PNA server configured, but are not currently using that
access.
