I tried removing the extra hotfixes in the hope that one of them was causing the trouble but the server I did went down fairly shortly afterwards. -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Wood [mailto:andrew.wood@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 26 September 2006 11:18 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Servers gradually grind to a halt Using qwinsta I was seeing a couple of down sessions, then a number of sessions hit conn and move no further. At that point the server is accepting load, but unable to process it. Mind, I think mine is related to session logons coming in too fast. I also had a problem with a logon script attempting to map to a drive that didn't actually exist - this was for all users and no help at all to the logon process. What happens if you *don't* put on the hotfixes? -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Angus Macdonald Sent: 26 September 2006 10:44 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Servers gradually grind to a halt Thanks for the quick response. I installed the available post R05 hotfixes but the problem is apparent on servers with and without these. I haven't tried qwinsta yet (inexperience) but next time a server goes bad I'll try it. The CMC on the local and any remote servers show an old set of user sessions, not updated. They appear as normal sessions. After a while the list goes blank and remote servers complain that they can't connect. It takes a while though, anything up to 30 minutes, for the remote servers to decide the bad one has gone down after the list blanks. I'm trying to do without the XTE service as a number os people have reported intermittent problems with it making servers unresponsive. Can you do a qwinsta on the server? Are you seeing a lot of down'd connection states? Have you any post SP1 hotfixes installed? -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Angus Macdonald Sent: 26 September 2006 10:01 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Servers gradually grind to a halt This one is driving me mad. Since rebuilding my farm from scratch to downgrade from PS4 to PS3 (don't ask - lots of pain there) - my W2K3 SP1, PS3 + hotfix rollup 05 servers regularly (but one or two at a time) grind to a halt. The first sign is that the list of users stops refreshing from a local or remote server, eventually going blank. Once this happens the server in question will open apps normally at the console but things like Task Manager do not run. The IMA service cannot be stopped or restarted and just ignores attempts to do either. Nothing is logged in any event log. The only way to restore normal service is to physically depower the machine. As you can imagine, I'm tearing my hair out over this and my users are having a spirited attempt to help. Can anyone suggest pointers or troubleshooting steps I can follow? ************************************************ For Archives, RSS, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: //www.freelists.org/list/thin ************************************************ ************************************************ For Archives, RSS, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: //www.freelists.org/list/thin ************************************************ ************************************************ For Archives, RSS, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: //www.freelists.org/list/thin ************************************************ ************************************************ For Archives, RSS, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: //www.freelists.org/list/thin ************************************************ ************************************************ For Archives, RSS, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: //www.freelists.org/list/thin ************************************************
