Hi,
The RM database connection server can be any server in your farm. It has no
relation whatsoever with zone data collectors from a functional viewpoint.
If you've got a dedicated data collector it makes sense to have it work as
the RM database connection server as well, but it doesn't have to be set up
that way. There is no backup datbase connection server, RM is not zone
oriented (disregarding possible flakey memory on my part) and RM summary
data collection is to all farm servers, regardless of zone.
At a nominated time, generally early morning, the RM database connection
server connects to each server in the farm and pulls a summary of the
rmlocaldb access database contents into the RM summary database. That's once
every 24 hours.
It's not a mission critical activity since a Citrix servers RM local
database retains data for 3 days. If a database connection server dies, all
I have to do is assign a different server (with system DSN etc) to act in
that role and things are back up and running. If you do that before the next
data aggregation window, nothing is lost.
regards,
Rick
