Run perfmon with the IO, CPU, Memory and DPC counters and profile your server for the whole day (or Week)and see what the total usage of Memory,CPU and IO is based on that number you should be able to determine an approxiamte number of users you can get on ther server. For example if you Cpu is at 30% Memory is at 40% and your IO is about 30% (avg throughout the day) then you should be able to get more users on the box. Maybe about 20 more users. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Scott Sent: Wednesday, August 27, 2003 10:58 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Server capabilities I have 2 PE2650's with single 2.6g xeon cpu's, 2g ram in each running full desktop to about 35 users with no problems whatsoever in performance. Its in a win2k AD environment. Im wondering how many more users I can put on the system though. I'm pretty happy with the performance now. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Evan Mann Sent: Wednesday, August 27, 2003 9:18 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Server capabilities We're putting together a proposal to purchase Citrix since our TS environment isn't going away anytime soon. I have a few questions that will reflect the proposal. 1) We use Win2000 TS in a Win2003 AD enviroment. Licensing costs for Win2003 TS are substancial compared to sticking with Win2000 TS. Considering we would put MF XP and the newest FR ontop of our current servers, are there any advantages gained by spending the costs to upgrade to Win2003 TS and revamp our licensing? 2) I have 5 terminal servers now but plan to consolidated down to my 2 newest servers which are Dell PE2650s with Dual P4 Xenon 1.8ghz and 2 gigs of RAM. I'd say I have a total of 50 users combined in my 4 terminal servers on any given basis. Of that 50, maybe 10% do a full desktop type environment. We actually have an app we found that locks the desktop and gives you only icons that is specified within the app. So this 10% of users has outlook, word, excel, and IE. The other 90% of the users use 1 or 2 applications that are launched through their profile. They are fairly low CPU and memory useage apps. Based on those 2 PE2650s, if I decided I wanted to publish full desktops, how many users could I support across each server without a problem? ******************************************************** This Week's Sponsor: RES PowerFuse, The Management Framework for Windows Eliminate Multiple Tools, Multiple Support Channels and Multiple Costs Manage, Control, and Secure an Entire Windows environment with Ease, including Real-time Reporting and Documenting Components Validate a Meaningful ROI on All of your IT Investments with RES PowerFuse. http://www.respowerfuse.com/ ********************************************************** Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: http://thethin.net/links.cfm For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ******************************************************** This Week's Sponsor: RES PowerFuse, The Management Framework for Windows Eliminate Multiple Tools, Multiple Support Channels and Multiple Costs Manage, Control, and Secure an Entire Windows environment with Ease, including Real-time Reporting and Documenting Components Validate a Meaningful ROI on All of your IT Investments with RES PowerFuse. http://www.respowerfuse.com/ ********************************************************** Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: http://thethin.net/links.cfm For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ******************************************************** This Week's Sponsor: RES PowerFuse, The Management Framework for Windows Eliminate Multiple Tools, Multiple Support Channels and Multiple Costs Manage, Control, and Secure an Entire Windows environment with Ease, including Real-time Reporting and Documenting Components Validate a Meaningful ROI on All of your IT Investments with RES PowerFuse. http://www.respowerfuse.com/ ********************************************************** Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: http://thethin.net/links.cfm For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm
