I think the nearest football team to Gerrard's Cross is Watford. I was
going to say that it would be best to forget about football in that case
but they have had a good start to the season, this way you don't have to
think about spurs & chelsea, but you would have to keep quite around
milwall fans

>>> svein@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 21/09/2004 16:55:45 >>>
Its all worth it, just beeing able to se real football and real rugby
is
worth a million phonebills....

Remember to ignore chelsea, they will never be up there, hate spurs
for
thinking they are bigtime, wich they have never been and never talk
back
to millwall supporters..

Pay for TV, pay for each phone call, Internet access more expensive,
and
if I recall correctly from my Siblings living in the UK there is a god
awful amount of money related to owning a car.

No no, we don't smoke anymore over here. Or hunt.
No guns, no cigarettes, no dogs.

or like my Ducati, end up in a twisted pile underneath someones car. I
bought an Aprillia RSV 1000 instead, which has a race can that spits
out
flames...which is nice..

Ducati's only look good, don't forget it rains in UK so your Duke will
spend its life with electrical problems parked at home or back of a
breakdown truck, GSXR looks nice but v dated, would go for Fireblade
(Hondas start every morning - my VTR1000 SP1 has never let me down) or
Yamaha R1 (v modern and reliable but eats back tyres)

I would also say that the car allowance should sit in the bank as
public
transport in London is the obvious way to go unless you fancy a few
hours sucking fumes, empty bus lanes you can't drive in, speed cameras
every few yards and if you are lucky enough to find a parking space
then
you will pay a small fortune for it outside where you live and where
you
work

Dude,

Welcome aboard old chap...
Gerrards Cross... hhmmm ok, not the best, but it'll do... income tax
and
national insurance will see about a third of your wages wiped out!
still, the beer here is much better and the chics gorgeous. Right,
thats
about everything covered I think :o)

Hi, folks.

I have been offered a position in the UK, which I am scheduled to
start
in December, assuming my work permit is issued.

Since, I've lived in the US all my life, and have only been to London
3
times, I would like to ask for some advice from the Brits on the list,
though any input is welcome.

Assuming an annual salary of 50K (nice round number), what might take
home pay be?

What areas for housing should I be looking at? The office is located
in
Gerrard's Cross, but I'll be doing loads of travelling, so I don't
think
that I need to be in that area, exactly.

I plan on taking the bare minimum of possessions and re-acquire what I
need when I get over. This includes my car. I'll be getting a car
allowance. Does this seem like a prudent plan?

Any advice would be appreciated, especially any items that I don't
know
to ask.

Perhaps, if there are any ex-pats on the list, you'd be willing to
advise me.

Thanks in advance,

Spencer Sun
