If you don't want to virtualise, then you could stick in Blade PCs and use
logmein - simple and easy solution but no hardware saving

Agreed Steve. Long term I believe this will be the solution. We are
going to start playing with the beta of XenDesktop tomorrow. I am
going to see how VMWare ESX works out hosting the image(s). Since
bringing in the IBM x3850 M2's with 16 cores and 80GB of RAM we are
seeing some incredible performance virtualized now. If nothing else,
we'll be able to do a proof of concept/pilot this way.
