Plug and Play and Universal Plug and Play are two different services. I
always disable the UPNP service without any problems. I've yet to see
anything that it has affected since XP has been released.

Why? You could always "try" to stop and disable the Plug & Play service.
However, I have noticed that most machines will crash with a BSOD.

How do I turn off plug and play on an XP machine? Can't find it in the OS,
nor the BIOS.
